Finally a topic where I can contribute a reasonably informed opinion! I know NOTHING about Defenders (but love mine!) -
I've taken a Terra Nova Voyager Supa Lite 2 person around the world. Love it. http://www.terra-nova.co.uk/tents-and-spar...ager-tent/ In theory it's a 2 person.... but you'd have to want to ahem "snuggle". Depends what you want - light for easy carrying, free standing for hard pitches, head room for space to sit up in, porch to keep extra gear dry (no prob if your Defender is parked next), cheap/popup (for festivals or infrequent use), sturdy / flexible for windy... MSR are also a good premium brand, and a few mates have used them for yonks.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/MSR-V2-Hubba-HP-Te...ubba+hubba Less expensive is Eureka...a firm that do lots of high end tents and a budget range: http://eurekaeurope-uk.shptron.com/p/spitfire-duo I've used an earlier version of the above in lots of conditions and it was impressive for the price. Whatever brand meets your needs and target price then I would normally advise getting an extra 'tailored' groundsheet, esp if the ground is likely to be a bit damp. Makes all the difference for warmth and to keep the inner clean. Thinking about it, Tents are a lot like Defender accessories, there is always a more expensive version for those that can justify it to themselves.... plastic snow cowl? metal snow cowl? unobtainium precision engineered german snow cowl!! Each to their own. |

My two peneth for what its worth.
Lightwave are a very good tent. The Geodesic range are the ducks nuts. they are sandstorm proof, and very warm in cold conditions. Been using one for 7 years and its still in good condition. http://www.lightwave.uk.com/products/tents...t=product3 Click image to enlarge |

Lightwave are great tents.
HAve you looked at the Alpkit ones. Not had one but the reviews are positive and if they are as good other Alpkit gear then they will be great value for money http://www.alpkit.com/tents |

For lightweight back country camping we use an MSR Hubba Hubba with the Gear Shed. Excellent tent which has been used quite extensively now all over the world and still as good as new. In fact I've found that all the MSR kit is good especially the stoves.
As for car camping we use a Vango Tigris. Well made and with good features. Nick |

Yes they get my vote - I won't camp in anything else. If he is on his own, Brendan will camp in any of the assorted little things we have, but for me, it has to be either a RV4 or a 5 star hotel Barbara |

The Oztent looks great but at 2 meters long when packed, it won't fit in the car or in the back.

Tentipi - quick to erect - 8 pegs, one pole - height to stand up in and stretch - warm, with a log burning stove Last edited by boode on 30th Apr 2013 5:25pm. Edited 1 time in total |

A decent defender has a roof rack - even possible on a 130 Cheers, Vincent 1959 Polynorm 1/4 Ton Trailer, Olive Drab Green (sold) 1970 M416 Military Trailer (Camping Trailer Conversion), Epsom Green (sold) 1975 Series III 88 V6, Light Green (sadly sold) 1996 Defender 110 CSW 300 Tdi, Epsom Green (sold) 2000 Freelander 1 TD4 3-drs, Silver (sold) 2006 Freelander 1 TD4 5-drs Facelift Automatic, Tonga Green (sold) MySite |

Should be considering it so I can also take photos on top of the Defender in the mornings.
Not sure what it does to fuel consumption. Only averiging about 9 km / liter at the moment. Quite a bit less then the 13-14 I managed with the Transporter T5 I had before. |
