I'll answer the steering wheel question for you Pete, Brendan is probably sunning himself
It's a Raid Nero, I have one fitted as well. Brendan supplied mine (from Nak. Think there are some pictures in my gallery. Here you are, I have the LR centre now, it was still in transit when I took this picture. Yes Bob is right is right. About the steering wheel, not about sunning myself as have been down at the unit all afternoon.
We will have to have a chat over a beer at Billing Mk2 Pete. Would be ointerested to hear how you are going to remap our 110 300 TDi Brendan |

Do you have a pic of the back with the tyre mounted on the new carrier ?
It looks to be very high up from the pics you've posted, is it any higher than a standard mount ? Do you need me to test one on a trip around Australia ? |

OK not photos of our 110. The single pivot wheel carrier can be mounted in a high position, could be useful if you have an Alko type towing hitch, or a low position
High position Click image to enlarge Low position Click image to enlarge The actual visibility through your rear window will dependent on position of wheel carrier and the overall diameter of tyre.. Have already tested a Safari Equipe wheel carrier around the Australian outback as you know DaveW. If you want to have a look at some photos etc, I suggest you look HERE Brendan Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

That looks very high in the "low" position. overlaying a pic of the standard LR wheel carrier with that shows the standard one around 4 inches lower than that one.

Yes - it is. I had a look at Big Russ' carrier which was on the lowest setting and it blocks the rear view - he is thinking of getting an adaptor made to lower it IIRC. John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

Yes in the low position some people might consider the wheel to be too high. However it does allow attaching trailers/caravans with the Alko type hitches to work better.
It would be possible to get a different plate mounted on the carrier so that in the low position the spare wheel was lower, however swop the carrier over and in the high position it would be even higher. The difficulty is there is not one item which will suit everybody as some compromises have to be made. So if people want things sorting out to theit own requirements give me a shout and I will always see what can be done. However their may be cost implication as well as delivery time implications. Safari equip tig
Brendan is right you can't please everyone but you can get rather close to it. I don't have any trailer/tin tent that has an alko type hitch so I don't need the extra height. I do have ever plan on changing my tyres to a 285 or a 255 which will give it an exta inch but will still retain a 16 inch rim, some will have it adaptd to sit lower to meet my requirements when I get round to it The reason I went for this one was because I wanted a wheel carrier that was connected to the rear door but all the weights was on the rear crossmember, I didn't wasn't to drill any holes and I wanted to fit a set of rear bumperettes. Lucky of me this one met every requirement Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |
