Would not be too difficult to fabricate a couple of inserts from from some soft metal, like aluminium soffet covering, and fix them to the metaltube where the hot air comes out. You could have the exiting hot air going down instead of straight out, depending on how you angle the inserts. Have thought of doing it myself but never actually got around to doing it. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I thought it was a 'retro' design feature, reminiscent of the old round Smiths (shinburner) heater as fitted to Series Land Rovers! Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

I am not aware of any commerically-available gizmo for doing this, although it is a frequesntly-asked question.
I don't know why some enterprising aftermarket gadget supplier hasn't brought one out; it would after all be quite easy to do, although it isn't easy to home-build an aesthetically pleasing one. Perhaps the reason is that the whole Puma heater system is flawed at such a fundamental level that no-one thinks it's worth bothering with! (I can remember at first being impressed with the Puma heater, after all, it really did emit heat, something that no LR heater had done for 30 years or so. After several years, I have forgotten how wonderful the first impression seemed and now the way it is impossible to have anything remotely like a steady in-between temperature annoys me. It does cold really well, it does supernova really well, but it is really a dead loss in between). |

Hi Blackwolf,
You learn something new every day.....I didn't know there was an 'in between' I am very surprised no one has come up with a commercially available one. I am sure if the price was right just about every Puma owner would get one unless of course they've lost the feeling in their shins!! |
