FYI, mine looks like this one. just less shiny lol. I believe mine is an original 200tdi defender, as a 200tdi discovery transplant has a different arrangement. turbo is lower down i believe.  Click image to enlarge |

Thanks for that. To be honest I think whatever the air box is then it it..... On my way down now by train ready to drive back. 2015 110 USW XS in Santorini with premium contrast leather seats in tan/black, black headlining and with Dual Finish alloys (in the garage, now on Wolf rims with Goodyear MT/Rs)
2012 '62' 2.2 X-Tech 110 USW now gone ... 1984 90 soft top with full roll cage, 200 tdi engine etc now sold 2012 USW XS 2.2 "FUU" now gone.... |

Well, I got home and no, I haven't just arrived.....
Drove home ok. I reckon 200+ miles as a little warm up drive isn't a bad way to get acquainted. So where to start with the observations/faults lol 1. The gearbox is really not great. No real worries about this because I expected it when the advert said "Gearbox is stiff going into second gear until it is warm" but actually warmth seems to not be relevent. In fact the 1st, 2nd and 5th are difficult to get. First and second are hard to get in, as if there's something stopping it going in, as if not hitting the gape between gates properly. Fifth goes in the gap but doesn't engage unless the lever is pushed right up to the top left of the slot. At the moment I can live with it til I work out if its something adjustable/fixable or if it is a gearbox out job. 2. The 'curtain' behind the cab space doesn't seem to be with the vehicle. Will contact the seller and see if he has it. 3. The wipers don't, well at least not very much. They were parked fine but when I use them they only sweep the middle 3rd of the arc they would normally and park at the low extremity of that arc. Effectively they are not wiping across a wide enough arc. And that seems to be it. All in all given I knew about the gearbox not being great and I forgot to ask about the curtain the only real problem after the drive is the wiper issue. Any ideas on the above would be welcomed. Maybe the gear selector plate is out of alignment? my old 1986 110's was a mess and sounded a bit like your have described yours, although mine was out of alignment and blown to pieces.
 £200 job i think it was but cant remember as the engine blew up too so had it all replaced and got a deal on the job lot of work he did.
No idea on the wipers as mine have always worked on. could it be something as simple as the motor isnt positioned right and maybe gunk in the mechanism so that it doesn't travel as far as it should? =================================== Steve 90 xs sw in Stonoway Grey - Sold 110 USW X-TECH |
