By the way for just cleaning up to restick insulation, panel wipe spray may be easier and easily sourced from Halfords or motor factors

How about IPA / Isopropyl alcohol? That's a good degreaser and general cleaner. Safe on paint too (Well I've used it)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IPA-ISOPROPYL-AL...257983b5b9 I usually use small wipes as never needed to use on a larger area but no good for your intended use. TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⛽ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°ðŸ’ª |

its worth trying white spirits, or even cheaper and less greasy petrol (just be careful due to fire risk), white spirits makes a great general de-greaser DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Resurrecting a thread from 2013!! Does anyone have any knowledge of the best degreaser currently on the market?
I want to clean down a an old tractor that has just about been subjected to everything. I don't want to use a Hot Pressure Washer and instead will use just a high power cold, but I want to get years of overspill diesel, grease, oils and even blackjack grease in places. Some of the areas covered are very difficult to get to so a sort of penetrating foam would be of great help, but it depends what is available. Would like to preserve as much of the original paint as possible tho'(hence not using hot pressure wash)! Many thanks Steve |

Personally I would use a steam cleaner for this. Unless the paintwork is in good condition you're likely to lose it with a pressure waasher of any kind, so the only only real gentle option is a degreaser and rinse. Whilst I haven't much experience with modern degreasers (in the old days it was either Gunk or Jizer, neither of which worked very well), I suspect that it will be hard work cold.
A steam cleaner used with paraffin in the jet will degrease very quickly and well, and with careful use in my experience won't damage paintwork (be very careful round electical and electronic components though). I will be interested to see what other answers you get, since degreasers must have inmproved over the years, perhaps? Unless they've all bee "greened up" to the extent of uselessness. |

BW, Im hoping using steam will be the last resort, but will wait and see. Having spoken to Mike Lillar at MSB I may even end up soda blasting.
Coatesyyy, thanks for the link. Ive just ordered some so will be good to see how it does. Many thanks for your replies ![]() |

Comma Hyperclean. Spray on, agitate any really heavy greasy bits with a stiff brush then wash off with a watering can. Doesn't leave any oily residue like white spirit and goes a lot further than alcohol (brake cleaner).
While its still wet if spray everything under there with Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber care, when it dries itll look like it came out of the factory. Here's my 7 year old 80'000 mile engine bay... ![]() Click image to enlarge |
