Yes its normal, you can check the other 2,000,000 posts on google about the subject. Don't worry, every Puma owner has asked the same question!

I wonder if the 2.2 raises the same question? Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Hi Ze, I can confirm it does, my new 2.2 has the bracket and the tapped hole in the gearbox but no mounting in between. Info I got from somewhere, either on this site or from the dealer was that they stopped fitting the mounting circa 2008/9 as it was found that either the mounting coroded/stripped the gearbox threads and/or caused cracking of the gearbox so they stopped using it. You'd think by now they would have stopped having the bracket on the chassis.
I wondered if maybe some people like rally guys might still use the mounting for heavy duty use? Cheers, John. |

There was never an actual mount bush fitted between the bracket in question and the box, at least not on any I've seen including the early Puma I bought new in '07. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. Not the information given to me by my local LR garage, he has had problems with pre 2007 Defenders fitted with a rubber mounting at that location. I have never known him to tell untruths before but this may be the first time I don't know. |

There are perhaps a dozen or more threads on this forum alone querying the bracket, tapped hole in the transmission and lack of mount between the two on Puma's. Pre 2007 Defenders did not have the phantom mount on the bottom of the transmission either I'm afraid. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.
