FCX, you got me wondering tonight. Where does the cable leave the the cabin?
About the headunit, have been adviced for a Clarion with satnav today. Have to investigate in the navigation part. Sounds attractive if I don't have to stick the Garmin to the windshield with all the wires. Lucky me, two weeks time figure it out when I'm abroad. |

I can't see why not.. After all surely the purpose of the cigarette lighter is just to provide power I'd have thought. Maybe I'm wrong on that.. Quite happy with mine all the same no plug in the way of the gears OR the cable all over the place. Oh and without having to set the damned lot up every time you want it. No Guts, No Glory.

Ah ok, I was actually thinking about just a short cable coming out of the top op my dash and everything else hidden away. Are we thinking the same now?

Yes, That's exactly how I have set mine up. Invisible wiring except for just a small amount and plug when plugged into the Sat nav it's self. Without the Sat nav in use it just tucks down the rear out of the way. No Guts, No Glory.

Well, that is actually the ideal situation, apart from the fact you guys did post a link of some Swiss company selling front panels for a million Francs?
Two camera's would be one for not reversing into city go karts and one to keep an eye on the dogs. And a bit off topic, but where f*** can I find the bloody OBD port? |

(1) Yes, that is an issue. The standard dash is very expensive as is and 2DIN cost even more often or not. Making the savings in cost of "all the extra boxes" even out between both of them. They are simply two different versions that do the same job. Basically just with one with a static screen and the other with a motorized hidden screen. (2) The OBD port is behind the access panel under the steering wheel. Next to the fuses. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Really have to think about this one. The panel might be expensive, but I actually bought the car to never let it go again.
Unless Landrover is still making exactly the same Defender 10 years from now. I doubt it though. In that case I think my obd port is at the passenger side, just like the handle to unlock the bonnet. |

Cable leaves the cabin via a purpose made hole in the bulkhead with a plastic gland and 'tube', this is secured along the chassis and currently comes up behind the rear light cluster

Found the OBD, missed the panel on the left side. It was underneath it. The panel on the right hand side had nothing hidden behind it. Too bad there was so little space as I was planning on connecting the Garmin Bluetooth dongle to work with my satnav screen.
Have to prepare to leave, but I'll have a look at the bulkhead as soon as I get back. |

Order this one from dynamic sounds in London. Expensive but as mention above I will have this car for a long time too.

Back in Holland.
So ready to start thinking about the Defender again. I'll probably going to order one of those as like you, I intend to keep the Defender for a long time. This way the interior looks a bit nicer. Must be worth something. Now, I just have to decide between matt or piano black. --- edit: decided on the matt black version. |
