Noise killer
Just picked up my new 90xs on Tuesday .
After 3 years of a range rover sport the change was let's say rather loud.
Decided to pop into noise killer and have the full kit fitted with engine blanket.
As you may not be aware the 90xs does not come with carpets anywhere . So hence the current templates will be short .
The guys at noise killer were fantastic and spent extra time re-measuring and adjusting templates for carpet less defenders.
They will now cut to 2 specs , with or without carpets.
Well the before and after is a major improvement . The engine noise is still there but it does not feel like I am sat on a motorway with no roof and car body Very Happy
The engine blanket does fit the puma 2.2 with the front flap, just needs a little bit of a shove to move loom to one side.
All in all a major improvement , I can hear my phone and converse at 80mph.

I had Noisekiller complete set in my 90, but have taken out most of it and repalced it with Dynamat as I was fed up of the Noisekiller stuff getting wet and never drying out as it is a sponge.

It is good stuff though in terms of supressing sound and vibration. Would be great if you don't get your defender wet.

I would imagine it would not be good if wet.
I think it makes a massive difference to road noise . Still will like a bit less from engine bay ?

Engine Noise

That is one of the biggest problems. To try and make a difference I completely covered the underneath of the hood in Dynamat Extreme, filled the cavities with expansion foam(really messy job) and put a lead blanket(from NoiseKiller) on the engine. It has made a massive difference. However, I used a sound meter(db reader) all around the outside of the engine bay and found a big problem was the gap between the top of the wings and the hood when closed. I am trying to find a decent rubber(waterproof) channel to go around this and as soon as I find a good one I will let you know.

Oh, and if you decide to have a go at the above, start the job on a Friday night and leave it for 24 hours before you finish it. And take your bonnet OFF as it makes it a lot easier.

The drawback to the above is that it quietens everything(which is very good), BUT in doing so makes you realise how much wind noise comes from the top of the windscreen. But then, what can we expect when the aerodynamics are of a brick.

Hope this helps.

Steve

SMB - I use the rear door seal sold by the metre to clip down both sides of the bonnet and it works a treat. MM4x4 and similar sell it and it is not much per metre so an easy and cheap solution.

That sounds really good any pics of finished article?
In fairness mine sounds really quiet from outside the car. It just seems noise through the bulkhead area , I think Question

Hilti expanding foam is far far better to use, it doesn't have the silly expansion that some foams have and is much more manageable to use and clean off your hands Bow down 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

I like these ideas as I don't like noise from my new 2.2 Considering the bonnet sealing, sounds fantastic, has anyone with this noticed if it affects the cooling air flow and engine temperature?

I think the noise blanket and insulation make a massive difference. Still would like to improve the bulkhead nose.
No heat problems , it has been rather cold though.
