A bit shocked by this response of LR rep Ms. Kelly. This cleary sounds like a very official textbook response, along the line of "they all do that sir", but it would be much more valuable if LR would do a reality check with respect to such statements as quoted above. Luckily I don't have a 2.2, but still a 2.4 which does not have this issue. The Puma 2.4 is a quite torquee engine, I presume the 2.2 is likewise.... I NEVER change up gears at that high RPM (2000), as when making good use of the engine torque I change usually when the engine revs at anywhere between 1500 and 1700 RPM, which means the next gear engages as of 1200 RPM. As of 1200 RPM the Puma runs well on torque if you do not trash it that is, i.e. nice and smooth. These diesel engines are not meant to be trashed in the first place. So how smart is it that LR holds up the revs between upward gear changes to 2000 RPM or in some cases even more? It means that one is supposed to change gears when reaching abt 2500 RPM or even a bit more, and then indeed the next gear would start at such 2000 RPM. But Defenders are no Golf GTI's. Kelly, suggest you go back to the drawing board with your superiors and get real, and give some worthwhile feedback which does not read as if it was first checked and signed off by your in house LR HQ legal counsel. I still have to hear or read the first person on here who appreciates this 2000 RPM artificial gear feature. It makes me suspicious about what LR are trying to cover up by installing something useless like this. I also think that most of us can perfectly dose the RPMs themselves when changing gears , and few of us will change gears from 2500 RPM to the next gear at 2000 RPM. Don't take my comments as too aggressive, but I hate turning in circles or not getting to the point. Looking forward to some real value out of this LR interest in our forum. Best, Eric You never actually own a Defender. John,
this tendancy to want to keep going forward.....wasn't this a symptom of some early 2.4's and was related to a clutch issue? could it be something similar. the 2000 rpm on the other hand does sound more like a mapping issue to me? good luck. |

Hi John
I agree with the 2000 rpm being triggered by the throttle Two things worry me about this feature. I also have the issue with the engine running on when releasing the throttle. Can be a bit disconcerting but at least if you hit the person in front because of it you can tell the insurance company to contact LR as it is a feature of the vehicle The other thing is this random holding at 2500 rpm plus when changing gear, I have narrowed it down to happening mainly between fourth and fifth. At the weekend I changed from fourth to fifth at 2000 rpm and the ecu decided to increase the revs to 2500 Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |

Hi Kelly,
Why don't Land Rover galvanize the chassis and front bulkhead? I would think this would be a small additional cost during manufacture that would considerably improve the durability of the vehicals. |

You've answered your own question there - how would they sell new ones? |

J!m, you may not have noticed that it's been ten years since this thread last saw any activity, I'm afraid that there is zero chance of any response from LR.
No-one from LR pays any attention to this forum any more and as far as anyone can tell they have no interest at all in classic Defenders (and very little interest in any concept of customer care). |

If you accept 'Customer Service' and 'Land Rover' as an oxymoron, then you'll be fine. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Hey guys , I was aware that the success rate would be very low, but wanted to give it a try.
There was a post by 'hbi' dd 23 Mar 2023 in which he stated he received a radio code from LR UK. Any idea how he would have obtained it ? Currently I do not have enough posts to ask him myself via PM |
