VICTORY IS MINE!!! ( well for now anyway)
Screwfix. Reciprocating saw. 3 blades later and its finally out. Getting the front tank support bracket bolts out was a nightmare!! Fitting the new tank will be straightforward surely |

Upon examination the rubber filler hose is showing some signs of perishing externally, but internally look in good order.
Probably not worth taking a chance on reusing it as a new one will only be cheap - REALLY Nearly Fifty Quid on Ebay for a short length of rubber hose !! Why so expensive - coolant system hoses (even silicone ones) seem loads cheaper |

All fitted now, but hammers and angle grinders were involved
Had to remove the off side sill and this improved access to get the tank in. The tank went in at an angle but was getting jammed about an inch away from being home. The seam on the tank seemed to fouling on the chassis rail so I ground a little off it. It was them hitting the bolt securing the drivers seat rail - take this out and the new shiny tank went straight in. The new filler & breather hoses cost about £45. Bolted everything back together using new bolts (front support bracket still a pain ) Flow and return pipes refitted, although the in-tank return tube was too long for the new tank so had to be dremelled by a couple of millimetres. New sender unit supplied with the tank then fitted (rubber gasket in first) and fuel gauge cables reattached. Didn't need to bleed the fuel pump, car fired up on the first turn of the key and pretty much all done Need to get some new bolts to reattach the sill and touch up the paint were Mr. Grinder has been. |
