Halifax, Yorkshire - will I be killed?
Hey all,

well I've just put down a deposit for a six month rent in Halifax. Unfortunately the only parking is on the street. I've heard some very nasty things about the town, so does anybody know if its reputation as a car-stealing, window-smashing chavtown is accurate? Should I keep my 90 away in Durham instead? I'd say yes automatically but I'll need to be able to get out to Wales on a regular basis Mad

Funnily enough, what to do with the Defender is the only thing I really care about in this move haha. If anything were to happen to her... I'd hate to think of it! Thud

Goes without saying, I'll be buying plenty of bulky metal security objects... Might even take the battery and fuel pump fuse out every night, clamp a wheel and rig up some sort of alarm-actuated shotgun in the footwell. Laughing

Im not sure of the place, but just keep it locked up and blocked in. If its smothered in security they will probably try lifting it so park with other vehicles were it will be harder for them to pick it up Thumbs Up

Whereabouts in Halifax?

Like many towns Halifax has its good parts and it's less desireable parts!

Which letting agent have you gone through?

There is some lovely places around there. You'll have a blast come the weekend. In terms of car safety I reckon it'll be no worse than anywhere else.

I recently moved back north having rented in London for a couple of years. I was near Epsom / Leatherhead way which like anywhere had it's good bits and bad. The guy in the flat above me had a battered old 110 and he had his spare wheel nicked from inside the electric gates...and that was in the posh-ish end of town.

This may be bad maths but I reckon you'll find there are more Land Rover's in / around your new flat than in Stevenage - so you may have a lower % chance of it being your pride and joy that gets done that down south! Sad

Aye I actually requested Halifax as my next placement because I thought there would be some excellent laning up the moors somewhere Thumbs Up I didn't think about the scary bits of life until tonight haha
