Defender 130 conversion
Hi guys,

This is my first message on this forum, not new to Land Rover though.
I have had several Land Rovers and still have a Discovery 3, previously owned a Defender 110 and before that a Discovery 1.
Now i am looking in to buying a Defender again but this time i am looking for a 130 for my next project.
I am looking for a single cab but these are not available in the Netherlands as far as i know anyway.
So, my question is this, how easy or difficult, if possible at all, is it to convert a 130 double cab into a single cab?
To me it looks like its just a matter of removing the rear doors and move the aft bulkhead forward, but I'm probably missing something here.

Thanks, Ruud Mr. Green Defender 130 2008 black

Yes, it will just be like that... use a 110 hicap rear bulkhead and bolt it up.

Some good pictures of a brand new one here where you can see the rear bulkhead.

Hi diesel Jim, thanks for you're reply Thumbs Up

These are very handy pictures indeed.
Even better, it is a LHD vehicle! That opens new possibilities maybe, wonder why it says "for sale outside eu only"?
Why would that be, any idea anybody?
The price is certainly a lot lower than overhear.

Thanx again, Ruud Mr. Green Defender 130 2008 black

Hi,

I believe they are built to ROW (Rest of World) specification and therefore do not have a European Certificate of Conformity... or something along those lines. Without the certificate you cannot register it in a EU country. Does look nice though!

Thanks for youre reply John, Thumbs Up

Wonder what is different from these cars and their europeen sisters??
Would it be because they are not Land rover factory build, doubt if that would matter anything if they have a type approval in the UK.
Antbody has any ideas?
Also, does anybody know if you can get these vehicles EU approved?

Although is says EU4 emission in the advert, ROW are usually EU2 ... If it was easy to acquire a European Certificate they wouldn't be selling them as ROW vehicles ... The cost of getting it to confirm to obtain the Certificate would eat up your perceived savings ...

You should be able to order a 130 Single cab from the Dutch importer.

Although, i would assume on a modern engine like the puma, its just a case of euro software and EGR type stuff that needs changing?

You could do a SVA/IVA test with the necessary bits added (I'm sure someone like BAS could source the relavent engine bits, especially if other people have them removed for power upgrades)

Thanks for youre replies guys Thumbs Up

Yeah, i wouldn't have thought that there would be any difference in brand new Defenders either, specially in the engines!
Anyway, back to the original plan then, buy a used 130 and move the aft bulkhead or buy a 110 HCPU aft bulkhead and roof.
Anybody got some idea about prices for these items?

@ Rakthi: buying a new Defender in the Netherlands is an option but the prizes are really ridicules over here, we pay an extra tax, on any new car when bought privately.
Thats why this car with that price was very attractive.

Yup, I know you Dutch are squeezed for registration and plenty of other additional taxes!

Did some digging around and apparently Nene Overland or Witham might be able to help you out! Worth a call to them!

The post is from 2009 but if they could get a 300 TDI ROW approved for EU use ... who knows ...

Best of luck! Might just be replacing the computer or updating the software!

Thanks for youre reply Stephen, Thumbs Up

I have put the question to my local dealer and his first reply was that he wouldn't think there as any difference, but he was checking further.
I am also sending the question to the supplier, see what he comes up with.
So, to be continued!!
