Rust on side steps/rock sliders
Hi all,

Got some rust on my tubular side steps/rock slider things on my 110, they're the factory ones.

Plan on sanding out the rust and repainting them with POR-15 or the like... just curious if anyone has done this, did they take them apart, eg it looks like the top part, the chequer plate bit, can come off as it is fastened with alan keys?

Shocked Shocked

Wow - that is awful.

Mine are nowhere near that yet, but better get on it, they'll probably end up like that in no time at all.

It's a toss up whether to do something with them from new or possibly wait until warranty is just about to run out and see what the dealers can fix up for you.

I'm guessing any major preventative work may give wriggle room to reject any claim later on...

Mine's an 09, out of warranty for some time now... unless the anti-corrosion warranty covers these components as well..

Sadly they are not covered by the anti corrosion warranty on a vehicle over 3 years old - I have checked. Considering what they cost, the finish is appalling - but are we surprised? Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

As an accesory may have only had 1 year warranty !

My advice would be to get them stripped and re powder coated or painted as soon as possible and get some waxoyl or dinitrol inside them. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Yes - but 3 year warranty if fitted at factory when new or by dealer within 1 month of purchase.
