For greenlaning (which for what it's worth isn't off-roading, they're still roads) I use an app called Backcountry Navigator on my phone.
It's £10 and gives access you OS maps of the whole country and maps of abroad too. On road I use an app too, Here maps. It's free, off-line mapping for the whole world. |

try OSMAND
Offline osm maps and point A to B route calculation. (no preloaded track needed) 1-time pay, unlimited map download. Possibility for different over- and underlay online maps or info (like bike and hike tracks) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.osmand http://osmand.net/ I use it for our holiday's and motorbike trips (so on- and off-road) 28/02 - Loss of a good friend... In a time of chimpanzees, I was a penguin. |

Satnavs are no good for green-laning. I use the Memory Map app and then load in Ordnance Survey maps. The Memory-Map App turns your iPhone, iPad or favourite Android device into an outdoor GPS. Take your existing maps with you or download from Digital Map Shop.

BackCountry Navigator is £10 and gets the whole county's worth of maps for free.
Memory Map for the whole of GB in both scales is £170. MM's maps are a little more up to date (they're 2016 instead of 2012) but for most purposes I doubt that makes a huge amount of difference. |
