United Kingdom 1999 Defender 110 Td5 SW Caledonian Blue
Battery terminal corrosion
Today I noticed on the + terminal that there was some white crusty corrosion, so did the decent thing and took the terminal off and cleaned it up with a wire brush on a drill and did the same with the terminal.
Re-assembled and covered the terminal in Wurth battery grease.

What causes this? 1999 Defender TD5 110

England 2005 Defender 90 Td5 XS CSW Bonatti Grey
Caused by electrolosis between different metals.
Coat with Vaseline to stop it happening.

Spain 2004 Defender 110 Td5 SW Alpine White
That is caused by a galvanic reaction when you joint to diferent metals.

By putting the dielectric grease all around reduces the galvanic reaction.

Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline) also stops the corrosion Mr. Green An engine to TDi for!

Cheers peeps. For now the terminals have been coated in wurth battery grease and then a smear of grease over the top of the terminal. Fingers crossed. 1999 Defender TD5 110
