Does anyone know of an alarm (preferably stand-alone) that can be triggered remotely, e.g. by mobile phone text?
My tracker messages me if the car vibrates and has voice surveillance but it can't trigger an alarm itself If the tracker thinks something's up, it would be useful to be able to send a deafening message to anyone who is trying to break in - especially if the LR alarm goes off as well Cheers Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. You will need to get a unit called Clifford call guard or an even better one is from Australia called a Gizmo. Can't comment on the call guard but I do have the Gizmo fitted onto my Puma. Basically it is a on board control unit that uses a sim and is electronically locked to the EIN number of one mobile phone so that it cannot be overridden. It also has 4 x 12v outputs as well as 4 x earth, and has set messages to be sent to activate the relevant power port, so you could wire it up to an additional sounder or tie it into the VCV valve and starter circuit and kill the vehicles engine by text message and since the starter circuit is also earthed it wont restart. Of course this is highly illegal in the UK to immobilize a moving vehicle say after a theft, but you can text your Puma to inhibit these circuits when leaving it overnight or in a dodgy area. Though the real trick is in the fitting/hiding/splicing of the wiring into the vehicles loom.
I would go into this in more detail but I am away from home just now and have to live with a sporadic vodafone dongle in a very poor gsmr signal area. |

There is an override code that you program into the unit that can be sent from a unregistered mobile to register that mobile as the new control mobile. There is more to it but that is the basic answer.
Also after rereading my above post there are only four ports but they are switchable to + or - . HTH Brian. Last edited by Lorryman100 on 1st Mar 2013 12:51pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Brilliant stuff - thanks (especially Steve)
Looking for a Gizmo now... I'll just go for the 120dB siren though - should take care of any thief with eardrums without killing then (however much I'd like to) Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

You can self build, if you wanted. There are kits that work off earphone jack or has light sensitive diode that can pick up display light and trigger a relay. They cost about €15 and up.

Thanks for the link Hmmm - looks the biz but a lot more than I want (price and function) - just need a siren. Anyway, now I know these things exist and what to look for I will waste some (more) company time...or go for that unit Tell someone you love them today because life is short. Best I came up with was this:
http://www.rollatek.com/GSM_Remote_Control/p204862_973224.aspx It's the "idiot version" of the Gismo - perfect for me Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

You could always use a TK103 instead of your TK102-2 it does everything your TK102 does except fit in your pocket but also includes remote switching of something - alarm or something else in the vehicle.

Good suggestion.
I'd considered that but I really like the TK102 as it's so portable/hideable with a long battery life - may also find other uses in future I also want 2 separate, independently powered units, hidden in different places - I already have the battery for the the alarm - should keep it going for a while: Does the TK103 have it's own battery? It doesn't say so anywhere :? Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Tell someone you love them today because life is short. Ze... I might have this totally wrong but your reliance on the TK102 tracker to trigger an independent alarm perhaps suggests that you are anticipating that they have beaten the 10AS already and are in the process of breaking in. So you are relying on the vibration sensitivity of the portable tracker to trigger an SMS instruction to the controller to trigger the stand alone alarm .... What happens if they have a GSM jammer? both tracker and comms with the secondary alarm rendered useless..... or am I missing something ?
Why not just get a decent secondary alarm system fitted (perhaps fit two sounders with a BBUS sounder inside the truck so it's within the protected zone) and let the tracker do its usual thing? Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless. |

I'm doing that as well (insane sinister laughter).
But the secondary SMS triggered alarm is mainly for Tammy YouTube video to follow... To be honest, I probably already have enough security for non-UK situations but this forum has inspired several "pet-projects" to keep my hypomanic mind occupied - security seems a noble cause Without anything else to occupy me, this kind of thing is the result: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge and the neighbors don't like me hammering late at night... Yes, it does, the specs say it's an 800mAh rechargeable. replaceable battery - probably the same as the one in the TK102. The Pukka 103-2 on the XeXun site also sports twin sim slots so you can use two different carriers to get the best coverage. I'm with you on the 2 devices > 1 front though http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |
