Hi zone30. I own a 2011 2.4 x-Tech in Silver, the Hard Top.
I've got no advice to give but wanted to say you're gonna love it. I made myself promise to pay the loan off before I started to mod it in any way. 6 months into ownership I'm restricting myself to mods of less than £100... lol who knows how far I can bend that rule if I buy everything separately Still, you can't take the £ with you as they say! |

First thing will be wheels and tyres. Gonna buy some winter tyres next year with seperate rims but first some for offroading. Not only to get better grip but also to save the saw tooths. As I expect to use it as my daily drive I think it's cheaper to have general more road friendly tyres on he saws.
That'll do me for this year I think. As I want to do a roadbook at least once a month, but not in the deep winter months, I also want to get a high lift jack though it mainly looks good (you'll agree it's missing when you'll see the car). Just wondering if it needs modification anchor points to hook the jack on...? Oh yeah, I want some anchored pulling points too, they are missing too. Do want a hand winch, no an electric one. The Brano's look good... Want want want... and it's not mine yet. But what are you if you can't dream. Anyway, this should be my companion for many many years as I don't think the new DC100 will have the same iconic-ism ( for lackof a better word). |

zone30 - go on a land rover experience training day - full day - and see what they can do as standard without all the expensive add-ons.
chances are that if you are still paying finance on an expensive vehicle you wont be taking it anywhere near places that will need mud tyres and snorkels. driver training will mean you will treat your vehicle and the area that you drive with far greater respect |

I fear my midlife crisis will get the better of me.
Concerning the tyres it's an economical as well as safety issue. As for defender there are so many good 2nd hand parts I dont think the cost will be that big. Replacing the tyres on the same rim will create a cost too adding up to about 50 euros per change. Swiching happens at least 2x per year, not counting if you were to want to put muds on. Thinking about the amount of offroading I plan to do (not that much), a mud set will hold me a long long time. Finally if it turns out to be a bad idea I can always sell them on... PS Ive been on 1 exp.day and 3 LR-days so I do know a little bit of how things work. Granted I still consider myself to be a complete novice, but an informed one. That means that proper gear would make things safer for me. It amazes me sometimes how people spend so much money on a car but if it comes to tyres they bite the nickel. It's the only contact between the car and earth you have. It's like buying an extremely powerfull stereo an then put cheap speakers on it. Though the input is appreciated and I do understand your point: "the car is already great as it is!" |

no offence intended zone30 - it's just occassionally we see newby land rover drivers thinking that they HAVE to have every extra to be able to drive down a lane that could be done with care in a ford fiesta.
i think the nara bronze colour is one of the best colours and i look forward to seeing your gallery soon |

I'd agree with that. I'm a newby and have had buckets of fun with my stock machine. It is amazing what it'll do. There is just no chance I'd wade up to my wing mirrors in a flood because I'm a bit precious about it still. But I've felt no need for winches, snorkels, bigger tyres etc and still had a blast on the local byways. My changes have all been small / cosmetic (e.g. Side Steps and non rusty mud flaps). |

The thing is I would probably agree with you and go the same route if all that stuff wasn't yet on it.
The reason I'd go and add on all the stuff I mentioned is becouse that's the only thing that's not yet on it. I wasn't gonna post any pictures yet as it all still could go wrong though it seems very unlikely it will. See my gallery. |

No offence taken. Take a look in my gallery and what would you do in that situation? Fyi it alo has: Transparent foil on the sides, so less chance for scratches CB setup, though that I have no experience with whatsoever 220V/1200W converter Dual battery All the bottom protections Strengthend back springs And the stuff you can see in the pictures 155 HP but not chipped, just basic tuning, whatever that means All done by an official dealer, the one I'm buying it from. It still has warrenty for +1 year And ther's other stuff too but I can't remember of the top off my head. I was sold on the price alone, it's rediculously priced. Guess! |

Looks to me like its pretty well 'loaded' already
I'd be inclined to get and drive it about for a bit before planning any more expenditure. Nice colour and looks good. Dj 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

That's looks very nice. I don't even want to guess a price as will probably make me cry thinking I couldn't get hold of an x-tech and what it's cost to get mine to a similar spec!

zone30.... that looks a keeper to me and if you want to "keep" it, the first thing you need to do before any mods is this here.
http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic13479....trol+volvo Your car still is of an age where it makes all the sense in the world to do it now, and believe me, those guys are the best at about only 1 hour driving away for you I drove two times 800 km to get it done, and I have made many mods, but this one is by far number 1 You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Thx very very much !!! That's exactly the advice I was looking for! Antwerp region is where I was born so I come there often enough as my side of the family still lives there. I was planning to do a dinitrol but didn't know where to start looking for it. Weird that someone so far away knows a guy so close by.
By the way, nice ride! Love the headlights. What are they? Genuine LR part? Here in Belgium if it's not genuine, even if it's better, you can easily get your car not allowed. |

X2 I was born there too Left quite some years ago, but I still know it inside out, and regularly return visiting there.
I actually have a collegue at work here who recently ordered a Defender "Hunter" limited (Swiss) edition, which will be a real jewel when delivered in April, and he also is going to have his Hunter dinitrolled at Postiaux in Schoten right from new. So somewhere in May, there will be a "Swiss convoy" made up of an SVX and a Hunter making a trip from Geneva to Antwerp for a few days Don't hesitate about contacting Eric Postiaux, they have a guy who does a marvellous job with this Dinitrolling You never actually own a Defender.
