Quick question...
How fast can I safely drive with the front prop off and the diff locked? It's a Puma 2.4 110 SW. I need to check for vibration around 40-50 mph in 5th and 6th. Cheers Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Go as fast as you want- you can't get any form of wind-up. Just don't try to put too much power down too quickly.

Series Landies did it all the time.......
Don't use low box - too much torque through just one axle. |

As Glyn and JST say. Drove all the back from Sevenoaks to Bangor on a rear prop with no problems, stuck to around 60-65mph on the motorways, 50-55mph on the A-roads. Like the guys say, just do not put your foot down too quickly, defo no 1/4 mile sprints and if you want fun try a nice icy car park or a mates paddock. Rear wheel drive Defenders do awesome doughnuts...

Doubt if you'll keep many mates that way

Drove home from Morocco in a Puma with no front prop and the drive flanges removed from the front hubs.
Find a speed where there is no vibration, around 75 mph on ours at the time |

Drove home from Austria in my Series IIa without a rear prop many years ago.
Corners were a little 'lumpy' without CV joints in the front axle. |

Just remember, if you do the same with rear to check that out, to take off hand brake drum cover before going for a drive |

I drove the width of the UK with the front prop on my Disco 300 tdi removed...... towing 3.5 tonnes. 60 all the way, no lasting effects.
