just wondering - I knew there's been plenty of problems with the turbo hoses coming off on the 2.2 but are there any known issues with splits or similar on 2.4

Mine has been fine on a '07 2.4........which are probably famous last words.

Puma 2.4. 60k km. Mine never came off, and I never really heard that like you do hear it happens occasionally with the 2.2s.
However, once mine did split, now about 2 years ago. Was replaced under warranty, and never any more problems since then. I am tempted to replace by this from Entreq: http://www.entreq.de/products-lr-defender/...r-td4.html Anyone done this, and is it worth to do? You never actually own a Defender.
