I have a Cigarette Plug that has 2 USB power outputs. 1 USB supplies 2.1 amps for iPads etc and USB connector 1 amp so that you can charge an iPhone 5 simultaneously. My Garmin also requires 1 amp for charging. Will it harm it if I plug it into the 2.1amp iPad socket? Or will it only take what is required? LANDYWATCH

Thanks custom90steve. The Garmin will only draw what it needs. The fact that one of the USB sockets can supply 2.1 amps doesn't matter. That just means that that is the maximum current it can provide!
I thought of hardwiring a charger but I have hardwired a multi socket system on the back of the cubby and run a USB/mini USB cable under the mating etc: to the top of the dash where I fit the Garmin. This means I have 2 power systems for the Garmin as I move it between vehicles. The cable stays in place but I can take the 2 chargers with me. Also use the 2xUSB charger in a mains plug transformer when travelling to charge the iPhone/iPad . LANDYWATCH Neighbourhood Watch for Land Rover Owners http://www.landywatch.co.uk/smf2/index.php |
