I'm not going to say anything against it to avoid hacking off owners of their kit but personally myself I wouldn't have it. Can't be all bad but I don't like the designs much or the quality. But each to their own & everyone's entitled to their likes and dislikes. Kenwood and Kicker for me but Clarion & Pinoneer are nice too. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I have always been a Pioneer fan. Kenwood has always been in the good books but normally beat by the Pioneer. I can't say I like Clarion- seen a few and never been impressed with the sound/ looks or quality. I haven't considered Alpine for years probably because back in the late 90s all the top systems used Alpine and s a result they were expensive- out of my price range so never even considered them, lol. Crazy how times change.

They don't have the Pioneer I mentioned above out here in Cyprus so it would be a bit of blind shopping where I can have a play with the Alpine before buying and at over £100 cheaper it snuck into the list of possibles. What would you advise from the Kenwood range- will be heading to the shop tomorrow and they do Kenwood, Alpine and Clarion.....oh and some Parrot.

Plus in a Defender running 10cm speakers (until I get my finger out and make the install behind the rear seats) is there really going to be much difference in sound quality?

Depends on what features you'd like really.

The difference on sound depends really on what exactly you fit. for the 10cm dash speakers all I'd advise is get the most powerful on the market for them and make to most of the small size. 6x9's are good for midrange and some bass too especially the powerful ones. But you can't beat a sub for lows. Thumbs Up $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I will be fitting my 10" Fusion sub (300W RMS) in the center rear and a pair of 6" 2 way speakers on the edges. From the front it will look like one single piece of carpet from one side to the other but inside it will be partitioned to the correct capacities- all completely enclosed to maximise performance as a ported box would need to be too big for the space available.

I don't see the point spending too much on the 10cm speakers as it won't make much of a difference.

Current ones (infinity) are peak of 105W, and RMS of 35W. Where the Pioneers even though peak power is 190W the RMS is only 30W.... which to say the least is very disappointing.... Even more dissapointing is the Kenwood at 20W RMS.

Mine are 140w peak and 35w rms IIRC. I would fit larger but it's easier said than done. Yes you can fit adaptor rings but I don't like the look stick out too much and even then only go upto 13cm not really worth it. Not sure at £40 the pair for the most powerful is that expensive? All the same just down to the size they'll never compete with larger ones what every you buy. Thumbs Up $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

My decision has been made.... all because of one reason- a fat Greek kn0b!!

Went to the place I normally get my audio equipment from and talked about the Pioneer- the one above isn't stocked in Cyprus but he could get one sent across from his supplier at a cost of £350, so I said I would think about it and he could only get the Alpine with red backlight which is no good in a motor with all green backlight- this would have cost £150 if I did decide to go for it though.

I then went to another place (where I originally saw the Alpine). This time the salesman came across (fat ugly guy) and asked if I wanted it. In responce I asked if he could do it in green as the display model was red- he said no problem... things were looking up.......BUT things then went down hill.

Me: "I am really interested in this, do you have the ipod cable so I can play with the menus?"
Him: "Yes it comes with cable"
Me: "Can I have it so I can see if I like the menu system?"
Him: "Yes you will like it"
Me: "Before I will buy it I want to test it"
Him: "You will like it, I will order you one and you can test it then"
Me: "But I will like to test it before ordering one"
Him: "But you will like it- we will even fit it for you"
Me: "I am a Vehicle Technician and would rather do it myself, but would like to see if I will like it first"
Him: "But we will do it faster and better, I will even give you the cheapest price in Cyprus.... £200"
Me: "No thanks" and then walked out.

What a complete idiot. So I came home, checked the prices for the Pioneer online and was going to order from a company I have dealt with in the past- 'Car Audio Direct'. Went through all the menus, made payment and then 30mins later got an email

'We do not ship to BFPO addresses do you have another address we can send it to'

I replied with 'No, I am British Forces serving abroad and therefore this is my address. Could you please inform me why you can't post to a BFPO address?'

The response I got back was: ' Do you want your order candled or sent to another address?'

At this point I couldn't be bothered so just wrote 'Cancel'

WTF is going on in the world- have IQs suddenly dropped in the last few weeks? The ability to listen to a customer and answer his questions has gone.... no wonder the Greek economy has gone so bad- and why the UK economy is following if this is the way people treat customers.

In the end I spoke to a nice smaller company who were more than happy to help and post to BFPO.... So in a week I will be fitting a nice shiny Pioneer headunit Very Happy

On another note- I will never be using C.A.D. again- it really grips my sh!t when companies don't go the extra centimetre to help a customer.

RANT OVER

Although personally I've had no issues with C.A.D. and bought from there before I expect the issue again there is big company and the right doesn't know what the left is doing. Then they have people manning the E-mail and message system that have no clue at all on the details other than "What is your order number Sir, and I can check it for you"
I have used a company called In Car Music which I believe is relatively small and has been brilliant. Put it this way my Amp as an example Halfords: £299.99 inc VAT & delivery but 3 - 5 day. ICM contacted by E-mail ordered in specially as not in stock or on site price offered: £250 in VAT & delivery and arrived within 48hrs. Needless to say that will be where my tweeters will come from too. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Just in case anyone was interested this is their site: In Car Music
PayPal accepted as a payment option (Something I normally look for on an unknown site)
Also will often answer E-mails / questions in person same day with in normal working hours.
Nothing automated and no waiting a week for a reply / none at all.
Needless to say he get's some business from me.
