Would the 1.5m not be long enough?

I am curious as to why you would want to mount it into the dash, especially if you had to cut into the dash to mount the carling switch mount, as once its cut its done for good? Also you would need to feed the cable from there down into the battery compartment to allow fitting. MUD do a conversion for the cubby box and along with 2 switch blanks would be a tidy install and it would be in a position to allow the C Teck to maintain a maintenance charge whilst using flashing/remap/diagnostic tools without the cable getting in the way? But I don't have or want a cubby box that's why I fitted in the dash. |

Thanks, Lorryman
I had another look today but inconclusive. One thought would be to mount teh CTEK outlet in the back of the USW so that I can use it as a power outlet for accessories. Still planning I can't use the cubby box because I don't have one...I have an tray... (it's a county). Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

By the look of that picture, the ctek display could always be removed in the future and replaced with a Carling switch?
SGH, do you find the flashing green light to be annoying when driving? |

Can't say I've noticed it.
Yes you could easily remove and fit Carling switch. I had same CTEK socket in my motorhome in similar position and never noticed that either. |

Finally got all the bits together to test this:
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I had the old style connector on the CTEK so had to get one of the adaptor leads before being able to use the towing socket charger from Disco3. All seems to work perfectly and gives me a nice option to condition the battery every so often. Martin - no worries - I didn't actually realise that the new connector was not compatible with the old one until too late!
The new connectors look much better than the old ones and appear to be weather resistant if not waterproof; thinking positively, I'm now future-proofed if I change the charger! Thanks for the offer of a new sticker, but I'm sure i can sort it out with a bit of glue or some helicopter tape over the top. It's interesting with some of the recent posts regarding batteries not lasting for many years; I've had another vehicle which gets plugged into a CTEK charger permanently when it's garaged, it's not used that often and when it's time to start the engine it will crank for 30 seconds plus before it starts. The battery is as good as new 6 or 7 years on. I put this down to the CTEK. I'm thinking that to leave this permanently connected to the Defender would actually be more cost effective than replacing expensive batteries every few years. PS - Not got a photo but the orange laminated card "Battery on charge" (or words to that effect) provided with your kit is a very nice touch |

Sorry to jump in on the thread. I had thought about doing this but wasn't sure if I could charge via the trailer socket. Is there a way to test/check. I have a 2006 TD5 with a factory fitted socket etc. It would be useful as I work away for 4 weeks at a time. Only if you have a 12S (white/grey 7 pin "caravan" socket) as well as the normal 12N (black 7 pin), or 13 pin tow electrics. Charging is done through the 12S or 13 pin.
See http://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/Charging_through_towing_socket for help wiring up or you can buy fused, waterproofed adapters ready made from me: http://www.disco3.co.uk/shop/index.php?act...oductId=45 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |
