Why don't the front swivels have a rubber gaiter/cover?
They get covered in crap and wear out!

If they had a cover it would fill with crap and they would wear out faster.

Early 90 / 110 did have them

I think series had leather ones

Because, on the whole, they're more trouble than they're worth. They're very exposed and so easily damaged. The slightest bit of damage lets water in, which is then held against the swivels causing rust and they wear out even quicker.

They also make it more difficult to detect leaking seals, although that's less of an issue with the grease used these days. Darren

There used to be a company that produced rubber gaiters to fit over the swivels but as has already been stated they and their leather, laced up counterparts tend not to be 100% waterproof and so trap moisture and muck. Steve.

I used to have the leather gaiters on my old 90 (I've got the pert numbers at home if you want them) but As was said above, they get a slight tear in them (which you don't notice), then after a while the seals start to leak.... so you remove the leather gaiter and find it full of silt and stones....

ask me how I know.... so i binned them.
