We have a client who has 'invented' something that he needs to stick to the face of a golf club.
He was using one layer of double sided tape but has been told by a professional in the adhesive industry that it would be stronger if he put two layers of tape on (one on top of the other). We can see that this would make the joint between the tape stronger but surely it can't make any difference between the face of the tape and the plastic and the face of the tape and the golf club - your views .... |

we're into tapes here at work, mainly converting them to some technical assemblies of foils, foams etc etc
couple of things: - 24h curing time for the adhesive to reach max adhesion (adhesion is not tack strength (initial adhesion at first contact) (this is not true for all adhesives but a general rule for acrylate based types which are also most common) - double sided tape has a carrier in the middle, which makes your statement valid, you will not get more adhesion force. - (but) putting more layers makes it more flexible = able to adapt to the surface of the item to be glued, more surface contact= more adhesion. If you want you can send me details of the materials and where the problem is exactly (is the tape coming off from the object or from the club, which i suppose is metal) We have some very strong low surface energy tapes here and if you like i could send you something i think can work. PM me if needed. |
