R380
Hi all,
Just wondering if the R380 in a 300tdi is the same as a TD5?
Reason i ask, mate has a 300 defender, his box if almost dead.
I've got a spare one from a TD5, just wondering if they're interchangeable before i have a go weekend.

I'm pretty sure the internals on the Td5 spec R380 are better (bigger bearings) than the Tdi one.

A chap on the American D-90 forum did a few conversions on Td5 boxes, converting them to Tdi for engine transplants over there, and he said it was more or less "swap the bellhousing and input shaft"

I was hoping just a case of swapping bell housing..
I've sent Ashcroft an email, they know these boxes inside out.
If them TD5 boxes are as good as you say i might keep a hold of it myself.
