Yeah it looks a bit cheesy some how fitting it before the rear wheel, the only advantage i can see there is the fact that you would have a shorter exhaust and probably with having the N/S window closed you will still here the exhaust better than you would having it coming out after the wheel

does it rattle against the bodywork?

It did do but i have today fitted a rear bracket that comes off the rear X member to hold the tail pipe up where it comes out of the hole also i didn't realize when i originally fitted it that the exhaust tail pipe was fowling the body strengthener as i couldn't see it when i fitted it but i have sorted it now by cutting some of the body strengthener away to clear the exhaust
