Damping
How come that the rear dampers are externally mounted at an angle? would it be of an advantage/possible to re-locate them inside the rear springs for protection and a better operating angle? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Yes. The front axle has less travel as it is due to the different suspension setup.

In theory the best possible operating angle is vertical as you surmised, but being inside the spring limits travel and is a pain in the arse when you want to change them!

So changing it would give better on road control but worse offroad performance, well that answers that then ! 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
