LRA - When you say 'little evidence of quality / functionality' why don't you buy one and test it out.

What?? Is that how you choose to buy things? Would you go and buy a head unit on the basis that it looks nice and just hope that it sounds good? I think you've missed the point, I'm afraid.

I'm not in the market for a steering guard. I just find it amazing that there's more discussion about the colour and whether it can be back lit than whether it's likely to be a good steering guard. Darren

That's clearly where I'm going wrong Laughing Darren

I'm with you Darren - amazed that looks are the key talking point, rather than the levels of protection offered.

However, I am glad that we are such a diverse group of enthusiasts. I really believe that the lack of flaming of new owners who don't understand their vehicles - or owners who want to 'pimp' their vehicle with little functionality - really sets this forum apart.

I wouldn't buy one of these steering guards in a month of sundays for a variety of reasons, but I am glad that there are people who make them and people who buy them. My blog - www.anacreinhampshire.blogspot.co.uk

LRA - Sometimes you have to take a chance to see the worth of an item. Right, so on the subject of HU's well lots of people ask me of my opinion of certain units... I give advice on details listed on the websites in question. I don't (and can't) go around testing and questioning everything on performance of an item when the seller / manufacturer gives you all the features and details for you and in front of you. If you know the details of the materials used thickness and all the rest of it it should be upto you whether or not you choose to purchase. If you don't like or want a specific brand then there is always another to choose from. On subject on the steering guards as it should be he has mentioned that there will be galvanised (I think) and other paint colours / non painted. So because he chose painted doesn't mean everyone has to as well. (if they chose to buy at all)

Thumbs Up

I am in all honesty here not trying to sound "funny" but do you care to elaborate as to why? TheThunder RollsπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Like how DRL's spread like wildfire. Laughing I go for both with mine practicality and usability along with bit's and pieces that I think are improvements. There are the odd few mods that I don't like and would never have but I reserve my opinion as it would be un-fair IMHO to start condemning things that others like. As K9F has mentioned before a bit too much scorning going on than really should be. TheThunder RollsπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

DRL's spreading like wildfire? Maybe they are on the forums but out in the real world I've yet to see one Defender with DRL's TBH, most just switch their side or headlamps on. Steve.

Unless I've missed it, I don't think Killer has mentioned the thickness of the plate on the guard and the brackets, so it's difficult to make a fair comparison of practicality/potential resilience of the guard.

At the moment, I can only judge it on how it looks and for me, that's a no-no but for others it's the Dog Dog . Fair play to Killer for identifying a market and exploiting it.

@Killer, please don't let me down and now post that it's made of 4mm plate, otherwise I suspect we will both look like tw4ts Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless.

You can tell what camp you fall in my this simple test:

Does your Defender smell of: a. Vanilla b. Sheep.

Is your Defender: a. Highly waxed so you can check your hair. Colour coded with contrasting chequer, window blocks and snow cowl. b. Dented, rusty with mis-matched body panels and a botched welded chassis.

Do you drive in: a: LTD edition Nike Air Jordan special edition. b. Wellies.

Do you have: a. Have Entreq door strips, snorkel, fancy stainless bolts or glossy back-lit steering cover. b. Have a winch and tow ball which you actually use.

Mostly a: You are a big girls blouse.
Mostly b: It's okay your a proper man and have nothing to worry about.
