Had the same thing on my Tdi a few years ago checked the glow plugs and found none of them were working so changed them and still no joy,turned out to be the fuel lift pump letting the fuel run back.Nice cheap fix and easy d.i.y job too. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Thanks for responses to date, think I will start with the lift pump. I have heard you can identify if it is faulty by turning the engine after losening a screw on the top....does that sound right....you may have guessed, I am no mechanic Sweatysock

You can loosen the bleed screw on top of the fuel filter housing and operate the lift pump by hand and you should get fuel coming out of the bleed screw if the pump is ok.Probably worth changing the pump anyway as they are only about £25-£30 and they can get week with age. 2005 Td5 90 XS

if the fuel drained back from the lift pump it would do it all the time not just on a cold day

all working as normal and been caught up with work so no major diagnosis. Having said that, I did try out the lift pump as suggested and all looked ok. I am unclear as to how I would establish if their was wax in fuel or indeed water in fuel filter other than just replacing them,,, I guess my plan was to see if the situ replicated itself and then take it from there.. any continued advise would be appreciated Sweatysock ------------- 110 CSW TDCI (Puma) 2007 |
