I`ve had 2 rear diffs so far due to what sounds like a high spot on the pinion gear, you only noticed it at slow speeds. Mine has a 4 pin diff and its an 08 double cab

Yes had a new Rear Diff 10 months ago in our 110 Utility 57 plate not sure if 2 or 4 pin, been ok so far. It went in a quarry and as soon as we got speed up on the road it was very loud and rumbling/grinding. Dealer got it sorted under warranty.

increased torque and lower gearing? we had alot go on steep descents but they were all front diffs which with a fully loaded 110 and low 1st thats a lot of engine braking on a component. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Hi (remember i'm from Brazil)
- What is "pin", and "2pin" , "4pin"???? - How you can broke that much of LR diffs????? Here in Brazil the jeep and toyota diffs are common, but the war CJ's and FJ40, not the modern ones, and all the LR diffs are much, much, much, much more strongest!! i'm impressed how tuff it is knowing my 09 90 CSW, I ask: How you broke it? Is it in off road? Or excessive speed/distance? regards |

2-4 etc pins are the "satelites" small conical pinions playing inside the carrier. Probably LR did not test them app with the new high torque engine. Puma 110" SW

markalpha I was lead to believe that they are 2 pin. The reason behind this was that's what I was told by LRCC. When I asked for the diffs to be up graded to 4 pins (I offered to pay the Extra) I was told NO by LR as it would invalidate my warranty as the vehicle is not standard I know I could not believe it either. However Ashcroft Transmissions has posted on this forum saying that the diffs are all 4 Pin.
Gabriel Boff Check out this link you will see an animated image showing a working 2 pin Diff. The red objects in the animation are what's called the 'pins'. If you were to add 2 more 'pins' between the existing ones you will then have a stronger 4 pin diff. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential2.htm |
