There was a relatively small stream that I went by today and it was more like a river. A small bridge I crossed over was nearly apart all the tarmac was taken away. I did have a split second thought that it might fall through hence I didn't hang about going over it. Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes.

The bridge by us is quite narrow and I had visions of water appearing fast onto the road, the houses by it have sand bags in place !

Claire - That doesn't surprise me at all. Currently a 4 day warning in force for the SW issued by the Met office. We currently have out garden dug up with new drainage going in just today.
Pictures local to me today: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge This was the one road / ford that I didn't cross today (to deep and fast): Click image to enlarge They aren't fords at all in normal weather or indeed winter but it went right over. It's normally just a stream that goes under the road in normal conditions. Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes. Big Brother is Watching. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

I took a shortcut home from work yesterday through a normally impressive but unchallenging ford - it was about 3" below the door handles yesterday!
My carpets are now hanging up with water dripping out of them. Strangely it didn't even wash any mud off. Regret no photos, it was pitch dark. |

I could have filmed when I did today but didn't fancy trying to cross with one hand on the wheel and the other filming. Not very sensible an idea so I didn't do it. So I just took a couple of photo's above. Where was that Blackwolf? (the ford) Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes.

Our village was virtually cut off this morning.
The normal lane I take out was a river, OK for a Defender but, as I found out this evening, the water level was about 7 or 8 inches above the bottom of the door - my excuse was it was dark Got halfway down the lane and saw water pouring through a field gate onto the road ahead. I should have realised that it could be tricky as the water coming off the field had created a frothing brown mess in the main flood. The 110 was only pushed about a foot off course by the force of the cross stream We featured in the SW news at lunchtime, the fire services have been here since 6am pumping out houses lower down. We also have a ford near us that has been a foot deep at its highest since we have been here, 10 years. Today, 5ft deep on the marker board All the water is receding now. Oh, the reason I know how deep the flood was this morning is that when I got home I checked the carpets and the rear drivers side was wet. On investigation I found the door seal is well and truly shot about six inches from the bottom and I could see the muddy water trail from the area that had made the carpet wet. New seal on order in the morning. Going to be as bad Thursday if you can believe the weather forecast. Steve I hope one of your group has a winch and recovery kit (preferably in working order and knows how to use them ). It was very wet last weekend and after today and what is supposed to happen over the next couple of days it could get very interesting very quickly Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |
