Dumb dealers
Defender in for a few warranty jobs including the clutch (finally after 4 visits)

Collected it had a very nice freelander TD4.e HSE (odd it turning off) but picked up my defender and the joy starts:
- Replaced the wrong bolt (i can accept this as it was raining when i pointed it at them and they changed the lower not the upper...so they did the work)
- Repaired the scratch they did lastime it was there; only to not do it properly and have to get the guy back
But the best (or worst one)
- Changed the clutch great Exclamation - but basically in the 0.1mile drive from the dealer they hadnt refitted the gear stick properly (it almost came off Shocked Exclamation ) so straight back in...how they didnt spot this on the supposed test drive Big Cry Mike

Dealers all seem to be rubbish. I like the way the salesmen totally ignore you once they have sold you the vehicle, gone is all the 'i want to be your best mate' & 'i'm really intersted in you' patter.

To them ithe vehicle is just a lump of metal, they get so used to seeing them every day. To us, it can be a very large investment, often saving for many years. My lot could not understand why I should be bothered about seals not fitting correctly or rust on rhe chassis. For me,the vehicle has to last many years (kept my 300tdi for 12) and I dont want it rusting out.

Don't you just love em?

I totally agree.

I love my 90, but the dealers are, in the main utterly appalling. I would rather drive for 3 hrs to to my decent dealer than use the local LR dealers.

What is so very sad is that the bad ones are backed up by LR, the decent ones do it because they are decent people, and few and far between.

Perhaps we should start a new forum topic, 'Decent Dealers' soley refering to dealers to recommend good ones and lamblast the useless ones.

To start with, Cambrian at Aberystwyth are pretty good, but they are a family firm, not part of some chain.

hi
intersting points you have mentioned, about the after sales from the people who sell you the kit in the first place.
having used both dealers in Edinburgh, and found the service to be terrable, i have found probbaly nthe best dealership around, based in Stirling, Morrisons. should give them a try. Cheers

Not all dealers are bad
My local dealers are Riders in Truro, Cornwall.
The guy who has sold me my Defender always comes over for a chat and offers me a coffee if I am waiting. The few times my car has required warranty work I have been offered a loan car or delivery FOC. Perhaps that is why I have bought 4 new cars from them over the last 5 years and hope to negotiate a D4 in about 12 months time. Thoroughly enjoying my landrovers in the far west.

Im not a fussy chap but I like things done right the first time & nobody takes as good a care of my vehicles as I do & for this reason my dealership sells me parts at discount and allows me to service my own vehicle under their supervision in their service bay on a saturday morning. Its fantastic because you learn a hell of a lot. I reckon all dealers should do this for Defender owners, after all its another sales gimmick. Land Rover's don't leak oil, they simply mark their territory!

Hi,
Anyone in the London area should seek the service of Charles Hurst Park Royal for a very, very good Land Rover service provision. They are extremely professional and the service to vehicles is second to none.
They are a bit more expensive, but they are good.
