Just used the search function properly and have the answer to my question below!! LandRover want £127 for this upgrade - is that really right? That's umm... £63.50 a bulb .... I'm just picking up a 2012 XS utility on Friday (well, its being delivered) and know I need better headlamps. This seemed like the easy option, but that's a whole lot for one bulb. And twice as much for two. Anyone know who else makes them to see if they can be sourced at a more reasonable cost? Thanks, H |

Excuse me???? I thought Land Rover here in Switzerland are expensive, but the price from my main dealer for those upgraded LR H4 bulbs was about the equivalent of 25 UK£, and they installed them free of charge on top of that. Wonder if the dealer who gave you that price quote is talking about something totally different, if not...., well, I would change dealer quickly You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

HTB:
As said by others, these genuine LR bulb kits are quite reasonably priced. e.g. You can buy online from Marshall Cambridge Land Rover for £24.07 (+ delivery?). Is your dealer trying to sting you for the labour costs for fitting as well? If so, tell them to get stuffed if they won't see sense and fit them for free, as they are a fairly straightforward to fit on DIY basis. Just have a good look at everything, so you know exactly what yo need, before you order the parts. My headlamp bezels + adjustment screw/fixing clips were rusted out and all needed replacing - Go for s/steel bezels from Mobile Centre. One of the rubber grommets, that seals the back of the headlamp unit, was also missing and the lamp was full of dead insects!! So I took the opportunity to fit crystal 'clear' headlamps - From Paddock's, etc. These are all tried and tested upgrades that you will find discussed elsewhere on the forum. Thank you. Thankfully that branch isn't my dealer. I have guy Salmon TD quoting me for a price too, but suspect I'll end up buying from Cambridge as you suggest. It amazes me how the various dealers change so massively different prices. I guess Ascot are used to dealing with RR and RRS rather than Defenders. I recently changed the lights on a TD5 90 and found exactly the issue you describe on the bezels as they were rusted out. i didn't actually get to fit the replacements to the TD5 so am hoping they'll drop straight on to the Puma when it arrives tomorrow. Thanks again - off to look at the Cambridge site now...http://www.landroverpartshop.co.uk/categor...ing,b.html H |

They will. Puma and TD5 headlights are exactly the same. Darren

If, like Martin, you prefer traditional looking headlamps, which would be the best lamp & bulb combination to buy? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. I think I may have posted that price - I was quoted that whilst negotiating with a main dealer for a number of accessories to be fitted to a brand new vehicle I was getting from them. Needless to say I was staggered and told them to forget it. Seeing as how easy it is to do yourself I cannot say why they appear to have priced it as a job they really didn't want to do? Still not fitted uprated bulbs but have stripped down the headlights to see just how hard a job it was, or in this case wasn't. |
