From experience ( 17 years at landrover ). Defenders just rattle , I know it's not a good reason but they just do, best bet is take a tech out from the dealership and make sure they know what you are talking about otherwise they will just fob you off. WWW.1STOVERLAND.CO.UK

I remember from a little while ago some people having issues with the bolts coming lose that hold the roof to the b-pillar...... that would call rattles and squeeks.

I know mines a Td5 but I have a rattle which is from the fixing of the window winder frame to the door frame by the lock area(just won't stay tight for long) This often sounds like it id coming from the pillar. Try driving with the window open and squeeze the door, push against the door card to see if you can eliminate the sound from there.

Had a rattle on my Puma somewhere near the n/s B pillar.
took ages to find and it turned out to be the pinch catch on the window rattling in the rim slot. a bit of silicone grease later and it is now quiet. BM52 |

I had a B post rattle on mine, it stopped when I fitted the Patriot rack.

Squeak? When the cardboard is fit tight it touches the metal of the door and squeaks, tape inbetween helps. Rattle? if the doors are not well adjusted they rattle.
maybe it helps. BR Oskar |

This reminds me, I had that annoying rattle right beside my right ear but it's now gone!!! Can't think of anything I may have done to stop it apart from fitting Rhino roof bars to hold the roof rack.
Now if only I can get all other strange noises to go I'll be happy. ![]() AlanH. |

and every 3 months I get this grating squeak from the rear floor that really sets my teeth on edge so I have to crawl underneath with the WD40 and spray right around the edge of the oblong piece of floor and its fixings which sorts things out for a while. Hmm its due to start again soon

I had a rattle/creak in the same place, it turned out that the frame that the door internal pull handle and the internal lock button attach to, had cracked right through. It was caused by a non - standard door seal meaning the door had to be slammed each time it was closed, this eventually cracked the frame. I fixed it by drilling a stop hole at the end of the crack, and a blob of weld. No more creaks or rattles from the door. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy |

I've got a really annoying one in my 110 Utility - and it's loud - coming from the passenger side and probably the rear passenger door area. I think it might be the window in the frame but can't be sure yet. I've had the one just by my ear too, but like in the earlier post, it just disappeared.
I normally don't mind the rattles - it's a Defender after all, but this one is particularly bad - sounds like a tin full of screws lodged in the frame or b post! (no I haven't left any there). I don't think that it is the roof trying to leave the sides of the vehicle behind - but I haven't checked that one. My guess is that it is in the window system somewhere. |
