Given the description etc there is nothing in the ad to suggest it is dodgy. Well written, given plenty of details,

Regarding feedback, don't forget that everyone has to start somewhere on eBay - first buy, first sell. You can't get feedback until you've done either one or the other!! I never have so I would have no feedback if I was selling something. Would that make you suspicious of me?

PS thanks for the heads-up, might be a good buy for my 90...... Smile Our blog - http://landytravels.com/

Just being fair that's all. Benefit of the doubt. How would you feel if it turned out to be someone on the forum who was selling it?

If anyone of you can tell me a REALLY good reason why this ad isn't kosher then go for it.

Reason given for selling seems reasonable. Bought, used, don't need anymore, get something back for the £600 quid outlay.

Anyone with any sense would message the seller and ask for proof they purchased it from BAS (date, some other proof of identity) and then check with BAS. If it wasn't genuine they'd soon be caught out, so why say it if it isn't true?

Description is taken direct from BAS site, complete with spelling and grammar errors that are there. If you weren't sure how to describe it then that would be fair enough so people know what they are getting.

Joined ebay on 22nd October. New person to ebay will have no feedback. Same as anyone just getting started. Bit like me if I decided to sell something.

Guys, really, there is every good reason to hightlight dodgy ebay items, but come on, what is soooooo dodgy here? Our blog - http://landytravels.com/

So no actual reply then? I take that as a NO, no real reason.

I have already responded to your ONLY reason, which was no feedback. OK, so dodgy people create new accounts so they get rid of old feedback. Could be. But ALSO could be new seller.

Your turn. No stupid emoticons please.

A couple of things came to my mind over this sale:

The username is td5____. As far as I remember the TD5 ECU is flashed by removing a chip and the ECU serial needs to start with "NNN". He may however have/had a Puma?

If there is a remap on the interface then it would not be compatible with any other vehicle as it is vin specific. The seller doesn't exactly say this but implies it by stating, Giving you the capability to program/re-map your car from standard to tuned and vice verse as and when you like and as many times as you wish. This is true if you have a vin specific remap file.

What he is selling however is a BAS remap interface which is an Alien Tech remap interface that allows you to read generic DTC's and transfer between OEM and remap files purchased from a tuner who uses the Alien Tech interface to mount their tuned files. So if you bought this you would only need to purchase a remap file instead of also having to purchase the interface to mount the file, which in themselves are expensive.

As I said in my post earlier, the seller's description exactly matches BAS's own description of the item on their own website, complete with spelling and grammatical errors, so there can be nothing wrong there.

See here - http://bellautoservices.co.uk/bas-remap-interface/

The only thing the seller perhaps fails to mention is that any prospective purchaser will need to have BAS provide them with a suitable map for their particular model as is not the same vehicle as the one the seller used it on.

OK, so you'd think a genuine seller would be more clear, but then they may not have completely understood the product themselves. Some people buy things because they think they should, without really knowing it is any use to them or not. Like snowcowls for example..... Wink Our blog - http://landytravels.com/

BAS and Alive remap files are vin specific. Otherwise how would they protect their investment? If they were not vin specific there would be no need to buy a remap if your mate had one, you would just use his rather than splash out £600 for your own Puma. So if there is a remap file on the interface, it wont work on any other vehicle than the one it was made for, as it is vin specific.

Sounds to me another bloody good reason for not paying £600 quid for either the remap or the interface. Dead money. Don't blame the guy for wanting to get some money back if he doesn't need it anymore, but OK, the advert is misleading, but it still doesn't mean the item is nicked, does it?
