Hi all 98 300tdi 90.
I gave my car a service yesterday, oil fuel and air filters. I also cleaned and re sealed the sump. Now I have a stupid amount of turbo whine. Itonly makes the noise when driving and only under load. Have checked inlet and outlet pipes and can't see owt wrong. It has had to do towing today and has not made any more smoke than normal. Help please people, cheers. For your sake I hope I am wrong !
When was the last service ? Reason for asking is the turbo on my TD5 went a couple of weeks ago. We are suspicious it was due to the vehicle not being serviced for 5 years before I purchased it. Once serviced with new oils etc etc I had the symptoms of smoke at start up and finally some noise - can't be 100% sure the noise was from the turbo but it does seem likely. Seems the fresh oil may have killed it off after years of sludge in the system Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |

Previous last service was about a year back as my mileage is fairly low. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

It seems my turbo be been playing hungry hippos and has been chewing on something quite hard such that the front of the input impeller had flattened the vanes and bent a couple too. That said whatever it was had been turned into a nice washer so that's good. Add to this it seems to have burst the head gaskets on the rear cylinder just for a laugh...
Having already spent 550 on it I guess I keep spending. Any recommend suppliers of turbos and head gaskets? Why did I bother, expensive unreliable waste of aluminium. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon. |
