Well
After our trip to the north and to balance the desert with the snow, we take advantage of the visit of a kiwi forester researcher and and a holliday on friday to organize a marathon of 2000 km in 4 days to the Area of the IX region located at 900 km south of Santiago. We keft Santiago on Wednesday evening to reach Los Angeles (525 km) to pickup our visitor. After 6 hr of sleep we head to our first stop: The Malalcahuello reservoir located 198 km South east from Los Angeles. The reserve is located in the slope of the Malalcahuello volcano and have a stunning vegetation formed mainly by Araucarias and other high altitude species). We reach the 1200 msnm and the snow, the volcano and the Araucarias appear. The road is quite good due the sky center located there. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge And like in the north our friendly fox Click image to enlarge After struggling to reach our final destination (Pucon) we desist due the mud/water/snow accumulated in the alternative road was late and probably going to this way will took us 4-6 housr. Accordingly we take the "long" way to Pucon. That was a long way of 250 km. On friday we wake up early to visit the Huerquehue national park with stunning views over Villarica volcano and with a nice laoon at 1200 m of altitude that at this season have snow. The park was located 35 km east of Pucon. Villarica volcano and Tinquilco lake Click image to enlarge El toro Lagoon at 1200 m over the sea level Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge We arrive there at 16:30 hrs and due the change in the weather, the snow accumulation and considering that we were carring our girls (9-11 years old) we decide to do not coninue ahead and come back to Pucon to have a good dinner. During the nigth was raining and the next day was for visit Termas Geometricas
And also to visit the forest in the area adding other 167 km to the trip Click image to enlarge On Sunday we come back to Santiago non stop making other 800 km. In total, around 2000 km in 4 days. looks like a good day out, you sure don't mind packing in the k's on a road trip. Do the kids have electronic media or devices to keep them distracted, or do you work with the good old surroundings and conversation.
Those are interesting looking trees, cool shape at least. We have something a bit similar here called Bunya pine. Definitely not alpine though. Look forward to the next outing. My Defender and travels |

Thanks for all the coments,
I really like to show pictures of Chile, a nice and peaceful country with a huge contrast in the landscapes One of our target is to known all the country by car (4.000 km long) to given the boys an idea of our geography, the isolation of some palces and our culture. Newhue, In general our kids used to do long trips. We mostly do in the old way: They use to enjoy the scenery, read a book, listening music, play some games with us like Trivia or just conversation. Anyway if they geeting boring with the landscape we have a Tablet that is shared or used to play movies or play some games. Bunya pine (Araucaria bidwilli) are a closed relative from the same genus of our Araucaria (Araucaria araucana) and in fact looks more less the same. Wife and I want to visit Chile next Summer - would be even better if we could get the 110 there but probably not exactly practical  Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
