Hi, I know there is quite a few threads on fitting De cat pipes, but I have a query.
I have a late 2006 TD5 110, which has silicon hoses, the EGR has been removed and it has been chipped, remapped what everyou want to call it. I am looking at changing the exhausts to Improve performance, but am worried about it being noisier, especially on the freeway doing 100/110Kms. I was looking at putting a Terra firma De Cat pipe on, and am tossing up on a straight through pipe in the middle or one with a small silencer or small cherry bomb. Then leaving the tail section original. Would I be better off with a straight through middle pipe or one with silencer/cherry bomb. As I said I'd like to maximise performance but not at the expense of an annoyining drone at higher speeds for longer journeys. Any advice is appreciated. Mine's the same (chipped late Td5) and I'm about to do exactly that to it (just ordered the bits), so I'll let you know.
I put a straight-through middle section on my old Td5 90 hardtop (which had no cat in the first place) and that made it pretty loud in the cabin. Hoping the longer length of the 110 plus the carpeting etc will deaden the noise a bit. Worth it for the performance gain though, particularly on a chipped vehicle |

I am running a decat pipe and straight through centre pipe on my 110DC i still have the small silencer in the tailpie, it sounds fantastic and only a little noisier while on the motorway

You'll be travelling so much easier and faster that you'll.leave the noise behind My 110 SW is running de-catted and centre box removed, whilst yes it is slightly louder a little more booming but it is far outweighed by the performance gained and the extra grin factor

So I take it Decat pipe and straight through middle pipe is the way to go? With standard tail pipe and box left?
Thanks for the Info and replies. Col. 1979 Series 3 109 FFR (ex Aust Army.) 2006 Defender TD5 110. 2012 Trackabout CT. |

Want to make sure before going ahead. Cheap as chips in UK, but shipping to Aus not so. A bit pricey for the same parts here, so don't want to buy them and fit them then take them off in a couple of months coz its driving the missus and kids mad. Can hardly here the little ones as it is when they are in the back. (maybe thats not a bad thing!!) Col. 1979 Series 3 109 FFR (ex Aust Army.) 2006 Defender TD5 110. 2012 Trackabout CT. |

It worked for me. No cat to worry about just removed mid box and replaced with a straight through pipe on the 110. 1999 Defender TD5 110

@3 lions, have you priced up a pre-cat fitment pipe? As it was standard fitment before 2002 in the motherland you could allways tell her that's what you paid This part is the fiddly bit to put on by yourself, taking the x-member off makes the job easy but the replacement/realignment of the x-member does require an odd tap with a hammer just to persuade it to line up The middle box is easily done as you only have to touch the pipe.

Sorry to disagree with everyone , but
I had fitted a decat front pipe and straight through mid pipe, run it for a year or so, but on long journeys it just booms (and I have full sound proof kit, and higher ratio trans box fitted). So fitted mid pipe from Alive that has the cherry box in it, and it is much better. All the nice sound, but no internal boom, still no exhaust restriction. All this was done keeping standard rear exhaust section Andy |

Andy, was this on a 90 or a 110? Col. 1979 Series 3 109 FFR (ex Aust Army.) 2006 Defender TD5 110. 2012 Trackabout CT. |

Hi Col.
It is a 90, and is very well sound proofed. Td5 is loverly sound but better without the internal boom, especially on the long runs. Any other questions just ask Andy |

As above, 90s are known to be loud but 110s I believe are different - hence Alive don't normally make a midpipe for 110s with a cherry bomb in, cos they don't need it.
