Deano,
Have a look here: http://www.mobilecentre.co.uk/index.php?ma...ath=36_148 Any of the first 4 systems will out perform the Tmax system (in my opinion). All of them are available direct from Tim at Mobilecentre, or from myself. Battery mounting will be slightly harder due to the size of the LR battery. Hi Dean,
There are a whole host of alternative ways of charging two batteries. However the ones I would recommend are in joint first place the IBS system here or the Blue Sea or the Blue Sea 7622 Third place would be the Blue Sea ACR 7610 Why the IBS and Blue Sea 7622? Easy wiring, no need to tap into alternator/ignition wires. Good relays IBS 200 amp,Blue Sea 500 amps. Possible to link both batteries although this function is easier to do on the IBS.Useful if winching or want to start vehicle off second battery Battery level indicator and alarm on IBS You will struggle to find a ready made tray to fit the original LR battery and a second battery. For the second battery we would recommend an Odyssey 1500 battery as it is a combined starter/leisure battery with larger CCA and capacity then the Optima. HTH Yes we can supply apart from your battery tray which will be a one off made to suit. Brendan |

With a bit of ingenuity you don't need a battery tray.
The standard battery can be turned around and will fit 'side to side' across the rear of the underseat compartment and you can use the original clamp to hold it down. The 'second' battery can then be fitted towards the front of the compartment and be 'strapped' down with a ratchet strap or use a couple of threaded bars with a piece of Aluminium angle bought from B & Q - up to you how 'glam' you make it look. A tip I would offer is cut a piece of 'neoprene' (or even rubber floor mat) to cover the entire compartment and place this on top of the batteries before putting on the cover, this will make sure that the terminals dont come into contact with the 'ground' of the car in the event of a battery coming loose for any reason (be it component failure or user error) There are all sorts of split charging kits available (as shown above), how much you spend depends on your 'requirement', if you are heading across the Sahara and the aux battery is powering the fridge with the medicine that keeps you alive in then you probably need a professional system complete with LED displays etc, if however the aux battery is powering the fridge with your beer in for a weekend at the Billing LR show then a simple split charge relay like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SPLIT-CHARGE-REL..._876wt_932 will suffice (there is also a 180 amp version available I just couldn't find one) I personally have gone with the 180amp Durite relay and it has performed faultlessly - I think, when I get around to it, I would combine it with the TMAX system so that I could have the TMAX display but use the Durite relay |

Just an FYI none of the systems mentioned above are actually a split charger They are relay based systems which work best with the two batteries next to each other.
If you want to mount your battery elsewhere in the vehicle say in a box in the back just to be used when overlanding then a proper split charge system would work more effectively. As said cheapest way is to mount a battery in the exsiting box and SECURE it then use a cheap VSR (Voltage Sensing Relay) which start at £10 and go up from there Tim |
