You have to love Landrover!
Notice that in the first line of the chart 31Nm is apparently 23 lbft, but everyuwhere else 31Nm is apparently 17 lbft ! The post-TD5 manual is so full of errors and typos it is positively embarrassing! For info, 31 NM is in fact 22.86 lbft and 17lbft is actually 23 NM. So ten of the rows in that table cannot be right! |

It is shocking, isn't it. It doesn't sound too bad, the difference between 17 and 23 lbft, but it is actually around 33%.
Overtighten a critical fastener by 33% and you're well past the yield point and into dangerous territory. |
