Hello all,
We will be shipping our UK registered Defender from USA to (hopefully) Ecuador. We've temporarily imported the car into USA and will be exporting it from USA to Ecuador (temporarily) before overlanding through South America. Has anyone got information on a good shipping agent in the USA or Ecuador? Thank you. Mick. |

Sorry,
I cannot help too much with agents in Ecuador & USA but a bit more of information should be good to guide the search. From wich part of USA do you like to ship it? West or east coast? Should be to Ecuador or can be Colombia or Brazil? (more opportunities to get cheaper freight to there instead Ecuador) I have some contacts in Colombia (http://www.legionlandrover.com/) and I can ask for you. Cheers! Thanks Eduardo,
Not sure on which part of USA yet. We had thought about shipping it from Vancouver but US Customs and auto insurance has ruled that out. We are now thinking of travelling up through America into Canada and then back down Amirica on the west coast. So any port on the west is good. She (the one snoring beside me as I type) will not go through Columbia because of some notion that we'll die there! Brazil and other northern coasts are out too. (She says) Any experiences in shipping to SA will be appreciated. Hello to those in UK reading this...it's 6am here and nicely warming up already. I hear it's cold there Cheers. Mick. Are you sure your snoring bedfellow isn't the one with the unhealthy relationship with Magners? Most dangerous part of the Central and Southern Americas is actually the bit by the border with the US. The rest, within sense and reason, is no more dangerous than anywhere else in the world. Columbia has changed dramatically in recent years, as have Brazil etc. That doesn't mean you shouldn't exercise caution, stay away from obvious city-based ghettos, don't flaunt wealth etc etc. But on the open road, in the country side, generally no problem. Assuming you're not tailing a flat-bed Toyota with a bunch of bandana wearing, weapon wielding drug runners in the back, just because the trail they're using might have a nice spot to camp at the top... My friends did a great blog about their drive around the Americas, if you're interested? Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

For sure if I have this kind of "contacts" my garage will have at least 4 Defenders and other nice stuff and my trips will be more frecuent. But I have only one 2007 and one "big" trip every 2-4 years. (You know, whit those contacts I need to cultivate the low profile ) In any case, my contacts are with the LR group there and with some freigth agencies (I work for several years in the fuels area of a generation company importing coal from there). As Grenadier said,
The situation in Colombia has improved a lot in the last 10 years and now if you get the common cautions is not more dangerous than other parts of South America and for sure is less dangerous than Venezuela (use to be a nice country to visit ) or some areas in Brazil and probably will be at the same level of Ecuador and Argentina. Anyway, Hapag LLoyd have a weekly service between the East coast of US and Ecuador (In general services between USA west coast and South America West coast are not available (not too much traffic there). https://www.hapag-lloyd.com/en/products_an...l#usw_east Maybe will be a good idea to drop a note to them. Cheers and have a nice trip Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |
