Hi k9f
Thank u for ur reply. Sorry to sound really dumb but I have not idea of the difference. Looking at the link, it seems like a regular problem with the spline? I drew upto the lights at bottom of a34, came down through the gears, stopped, went to pull away and clunk!! Andy |

transfer box jumped in to neutral ?
any noises from it when you try to drive ? any extra noises from gearbox before it went , like clunking when changing gear ? does the lever feel the same as before when you select gear ? |

Hi muncho
Appreciate ur response Yes, it seemed to jump into neutral I thought I had heard a bit of a rattle earlier on the drive home but thought it was me! First time it clunked into gear was at the traffic lights. If I try to select a gear now, it whirls but won't go into a gear! regards |

Do you mean that you can't move the gear lever into gear (=broken clutch or gearbox) or that the gear lever and clutch seem to work normally but when you put it in any gear and come off the clutch you get the noise but the vehicle doesn't move? If the latter, it's most likely to be the output adaptor shaft, but could be a halfshaft, drive flange or diff failure, or it could be a transfer box problem. If you can be more specific we can probably provide a narrower diagnosis. |

Cheers Blackwolf
Yes, it seems to be the latter... If I put it into 1st gear, there is a whirling noise but won't move, same for 2nd etc and the noise is increased/ sped up!! Bit of a worry as booked up to travel down to Italy in her with family in 4 weeks!! Regards |

Not a worry. Dealer fix under warranty......Sorted! Better it happened now rather than in four weeks one days time. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

If you get the shaft replaced under warranty make sure you mention to get it lubricated / greased once fitted too.
You don't want a new one fitted under warranty not greased and then it fails out of warranty. They would like that. |
