Cheers for the heads up Shazzy. I'll put the dogs on red alert and get the lasers and cannons prepped. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

Time to leave that frayed power cable next to the puddle near the drivers door Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Tim @ Mobile centre does a nice vehicle tracker at a very good price, I know it wont stop the thefts but it will ensure you get the car back.

No, I don't see anything in the article that says older vehicles are being targeted, in particular.
In the summer in N Yorks we had a few thefts of relatively new Defenders. Our blog - http://landytravels.com/ Yorkshire Off Road Club - http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net |

"A “N” registered Land Rover Defender " that would mean either Suffix 1974; N Prefix 1995.

I also got that impression but I think its just because they suggest security measures for older vehicles. Newer ones are impenetrable of course, due to LR's hi-tech alarm system... It happened to be an N reg that was stolen but it doesn't say what the age of the other vehicle they were trying to steal is.
From what we see on here there is no particular age fro LR thefts - any age, any model. The article is also a York Press one - their writing in generally appalling so whatever the NY Police said could have been paraphrased by them so badly it would be difficult to tell what the Police message actually was!! Pam & ZD - thanks for the responses - I guess I was looking for some comfort in that they may both of been older vehicles and LR have improved things.
I'll stop chasing rainbows then I'm off to research both the most cost effective and some of the more easy ways to ensure my Defender stays on my drive. More than happy to hear other people's suggestions. |

I think in general Land Rover have improved security on Defenders - the key and locks on newer ones are more secure and of course there is the factory alarm.
However, the basic design of the Defender is such that it is still relatively easy to break into, and so despite owners going to the effort and expense of a range of after market anti-theft devices they do still get nicked. For thieves the prize is worth the extra hassle and they find ways around them. Our blog - http://landytravels.com/ Yorkshire Off Road Club - http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net |

Yeah, I only said the new locks are 'more secure' (which they area) but I didn't say they were unbreakinable! Our blog - http://landytravels.com/
