Defender = outgoing so I expect LR went for the cheapest option, modifying the 2.4, so not requiring radical changes (excluding the DPF).
To those who have a 2.2, is LR's claim that it only needs 40 mph runs over short-ish distances to clean the DPF? The 2.2tdci in the new global Ford Ranger is the same engine as the Defender, Ford have aimed the new Ford Ranger to take the lions share of the pick up sales in Australia, South Africa and other such contries where thousands of people depend on their trucks ability and reliability just to get to town which may be hundreds of miles of extreme 4x4 driving. The 2.2tdci therefore should not be seen by the 2.4/Td5 crew as a lesser engine than theirs. If its good enough for the Ford Ranger its good enough for the Defender.

The issue is not technical, but it is us voting for darn idiots. If LR chooses to go for another engine, they would have to file for reclassification of the EU classtype rating and this will be denied as we left handling power to these "Gutmenschen" in Brussels. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel. |

The 2.4 still exist EU5 on transit with DPF (I have one in the Company where I'm employed). Only, and I repeat it again, FORD decided, for cost optimization reasons, to reduce the engine offer from the 2.2, 2.4 and 3.2 Pumas to the new 2.2 and 3.2 Pumas (2.2 and 2.4 are so closer displacement) and without change anythings else (gearbox, frame, ....) and without introduce a totally new engine/powertrain (new wharehouse management with a lot of new spares, new versions that means COSTS!!!) In that way minimum cost, maximum result Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition IID Pro MV License |

No, it's the other way around. Needless to say, the ideal engine for the Defender would have been the 3.2 TDCi, not the 2.4 or 2.2. -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Even though I am happy with my 2.2tdci 110, if I did not need the 7 seats I might have gone for the 3.2 tdci Ranger. Now a Defender 110 with a 3.2tdci would be great and I think would sell better than the 2.2. If only Land Rover saw sense.

Yep, even the 'old' 3.0 TDCi from the old Ranger would have been more than adequate. But f-ing bean counters at LR -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

at 2000 rpm my 2.2 110 XSUtility is showing 60mph (Sat nav shows 56/57). Fuel Consumption works out at around 28mpg - mileage 14500. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly! |

There were 2.4's until 2011. In the current continental 2012 list you don't find the 2.4 any longer for the standard Ford Transit. There is only an option left for Baseframes to built special vehicles on the 2.4 until 2013. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel. |
