Help...
.... I just got back from holiday. Good news, the Defender is still on the drive. Bad news, the battery appeared flat and on trying to start I just got a clicking. So I charged the battery overnight. It now starts as it should, but the red battery light is on constantly, the temp gauge shoots into the red instantly, even when the engine is cold, and It wont do more than about 25mph. Is this limp home mode? How do I clear this?

Any help really appreciated!

James

This is a known issue with the Puma and it is an ECU fault. If you can read the DTC's stored check for P068-A being logged as a tested DTC within the EMS. P068-A appears quite often if the OBDII socket is used to power a diagnostic tool or scangauge/ultragauge etc. However in conjunction with the Temp gauge in the red and the engine in limp mode this points to the ECU failing. If you are in warranty call out LR assist as long as the Puma is still showing this fault.

I have had the same symptoms a couple of times but it is easily checked for a fault in the harness by following the tech bulletin. My issue was the OBDII socket and after I rectified the issue the fault has yet to reappear. Point to note not mentioned in the above bulletin is that if the fault happens with the engine running it goes straight into limp mode but no MIL will show and you will struggle to get above 25mph.
