United Kingdom 2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Zambezi Silver
Front Jate Rings For a Puma 110 SW
Apologies if this subject is already buried somewhere in the archive, but I had a good search (using my limited skills!) and couldn't find what I was looking for.
Anyhow, I used to have a set of forged Jate rings fitted to my old Defender 90 300tdi CSW, which I bought from 'Famous Four' a few years ago.
These rings seemed to be of decent quality and fitted the chassis perfectly, without the need to shim them out with washers.
I now want to fit front Jate rings to my Puma 110 SW (will swap over to a 'ball & jaw' tow hook at rear), and so had a trawl around on Google to find Famous Four's website.
In doing so, I stumbled upon the website for 'Extreme 4x4' (previously Scorpion?), who sell rings for Pre-TD5 Defenders with a 12mm dia. bolt & for TD5 onwards with a 10mm dia. bolt - At close to double the price of most places!
I spoke to Famous Four and they couldn't tell me if there was any difference between Defender models, or what bolt size their Jate rings took.
So, to avoid having to crawl under the vehicle during this latest bout of downpours, can anybody recommend a supplier of good quality forged Jate rings that have the correct bolt diameter (to avoid drilling out chassis holes) & that fit without shimming?
if such a thing exists! '57 Defender 110 XS Station Wagon 2.4tdci

Jate rings are good. However when you are up to the axle etc in mud how do you reach the Jate rings?

Recovery eyes on steering guard or already mounted on bumpers etc are Thumbs Up

Alternatively consider

Sits on top of a bumper.

Good advice. Thumbs Up
In fairness the 110 is just my spaniel taxi/fishing + shooting brake.
I'm not an out & out mud plugger, but theres no point in getting wet & muddy for the sake of it!
I assume that the bumper top shackle points are a straightforward fitment - No drilling or dismantling half of the vehicle?
In which case, how much do they cost & how soon can you send them? Wink '57 Defender 110 XS Station Wagon 2.4tdci

You have to drill two holes in the bumper but other than that it's straightforward.
Think the answer to how soon can you send them will be Monday - unless he has buried them in the bowels of the trailer which is in the process of getting packed for Billing. The other alternative is if you are going to Billing you could get them there and save the shipping costs.

Our normal price for a pair of recovery eyes will be £79, to forum members £75. Am not sure how much they will cost to send out as have not weighed them yet, would imagine about £6-8 via post office.

As Barbara says two holes need drilling in bumper per eye.

Quick and easy to attach to these eyes. Using a bridle and attach recovery rope/strap without use of hard shackle is Thumbs Up

Alternatives are the the Equipe swivel recovery eyes which is a saddle wrapped around the bumper but a big hole ( sorry can not remember hole diameter) needs cutting for the swivel.

Barbara/Brendan,
I assume that you are not one and the same - But you never know nowadays!! Laughing
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I must admit that I still have an aversion to drilling holes at this stage, but will give it some more thought.
My original questions regarding Jate rings still stand, so any help & advice is welcome. '57 Defender 110 XS Station Wagon 2.4tdci

I assure you that Barbara and I (Brendan) are two different people. Barbara ais the intelligent, pretty one who bakes good cakes. Thumbs Up I am the ugly one who shifts boxes from A to B and back to A again.
