let me say what it doesn't do although a lot of people think the opposite:

cure vibrations and wear on the linkage parts of your steering.

its sole purpose is accurately described in the previous posts. If you come to the point it needs masking things, reconsider as this is not its purpose and only a temporary side effect. (iow costly replacements of these dampers are a waste if you are not going into Bigfoot vehicle territory)
