Hi
Has anybody fitted a SE double pivot wheel carrier to a post 2002 Defender ? Brendan supplied one and I have spent the last two weekends trying to fit it to the TD5 90 and failed despite numerous calls to Brendan It is the same as the Extreme one featured in this link (and my rear door is the same as well) - http://www.extreme4x4.co.uk/acatalog/LRM_i...arrier.pdf Bottom bracket fits fine and so does the door bracket but the carrier arms appear to be about 3" to short. If you look at picture 36 in the link, the top arm of my carrier finishes about where the guys finger is, approx 3" from the door pivot. If the door bracket is reversed there is no way it will ever fit. The body brackets will not reverse either. Brendan and I have now totally run out of ideas. I have a pre 2002 door bracket as well but that will not fit as there is only the door skin where that would have to fit plus there is the central locking and wiper motor in the way. If you have one fitted can you give me clue as to how it's fitted and also the length of the top carrier arm, mine is 650cm and Brendan has checked a pre and post 2002 version and they are the same length. Any pics?
Does your bracket look like the one in your link, or the one on safari's website? Andy |

3" sounds about the same as the offset mentioned in the article for the German market ... has it got mounting brackets/ drawing for that market by mistake ?

I have one fitted. I just measured the top carrier arm (see yellow arrow in picture), it measures 715 mm (between center of pivots).
Hope this helps? Click image to enlarge Edit: I see on their website (http://www.extreme4x4.co.uk/acatalog/REAR_WHEEL_CARRIERS.html) there's an additional version "with extra large tyres". May be you should have this one? N.B. 715 - 650 = 65 mm ( = 2.55 inch -> approx. 3 inch ?) Thanks all
No pictures or instructions supplied Mine is as per the Safari web site but Brendan also got me the long door bracket as shown on the Extreme site. Veetee, you have solved the mystery The length of the the yellow line on mine is 650mm (not cm's as per original post ) and indeed the 65mm extra lenght will allow everything to fit perfectly Brendan is on the case Thanks Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |
