As above, I agree that that is an awesome trip that I would LOVE to do. I start my couple of months overland trip in May..... Maybe in 23 years time I will still be out having never gone back.
From what I have seen of that trip you don't even need a 4x4- 95% of the tracks are solid with minimal gloopy stuff. One of the forum members has a Puma on not a whole lot less than that with minimal problems and it didn't even take 5 years never mind taking it easier and taking 23.
Articles like this get me even more excited for my journey

great story, what a humble man undertaking a great adventure. Very sad for his loss.
what a rubbish sense of direction though....his trans africa journey took him to Rio, Cuba and Korea - no wonder it took him 23years
