I did just as you suggested and eventually found the red wire inside the rubber hose cut. I was ready to order a new window regulator so by searching this forum I saved a lot of time and money.

All is good. My window has been unusable for a few months.

Thanks

I'd be looking at the bunch of wires that go from the door pillar to the door itself. These are prone to breaking inside the rubber sheath, it's highly likely that the wire/s have broken and earthing out causing the fuse to blow.

Hey Guys, This thread was a lifesaver. Right drivers electric window stopped working...checked fuses and relay, all good. Then stripped the door down and found the green cable sheared off. Re-soldered, extended and all back to normal in under an hour. Thanks Boys

I have a slight variation on this problem... on both sides the electric windows have become increasingly difficult to open, requiring a lot of pressing of the switches to get anything to happen. This started on the drivers side, which got progressively worse, then started on the passenger side. Now almost impossible to open either side. The weird thing is that the whole time, even now, they close absolutely perfectly.

Could this still be a switch problem or the usual issue with broken wires at the door pillar? Or is it more likely to be something to do with the actual winding mechanisms? I would have thought the latter if it wasn't happening on both sides.

Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks!

Just used this thread to find the problem with my drivers window. Hottest day of the year, defender boiling inside after being in the sun all day and an hours drive home with no ac or opening window!.
Checked the fuses, swapped the switches. Still no fix. Quick Google and I arrived here. 2 mins later I find a broken wire in the door loom! Thanks for all the responses on here, well done.

I have this issue now Sad checked wires in rubber tube between door and Pilar as best I could the seem to be intact. Where are the fuses located as I'll start from there I guess. Can you get to and swap the switches from the stereo gap btw?

In trying to shift the rubber sleeve back I found a broken red wire Sad. Struggling to get the sleeve to pull back though and really don't want to cut it.

managed to repair this by feeding through some new higher spec wire through the conduit and making the new joins . Electric window works again, for now at least anyway Smile

Driver electric window fixed
This was a great thread, thank you chaps.
After testing the fuses, swapping the switches (as passenger side window worked fine) then looked at the rubber conduit between car and door, eventually found the culprits, both wires blue and red were broken half wa along inside the conduit.
As pointed out earlier in this thread, this wire does seem to be particularly stiffer, therefore less flexible and I imagine prone to breaking. I threaded some rubber encased outdoor wires through the original conduit and crimped the joins. All the older wire is now either in the pillar or in the door, so won’t be moved resulting in breakage.
I guess I’ll just wait until I have to do it again on the passenger door side!
Thank you again guys - really useful.
